路聽聽聽聽聽聽 What is media literacy?
Media literacy refers to the ability to select information, question, understand, evaluate, create and produce, and respond in a discursive manner when people are confronted with a variety of information in different media. In the new media era, media literacy does not only mean the literacy to interpret and receive information, but also the literacy to disseminate and produce information.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽 Why is it important?
With the new pneumonia epidemic sweeping the world, people are more interested in information than ever before. Various kinds of fake news are flooding the Internet to confuse the public and cause panic. In addition to legal and technical measures, strengthening media literacy education, especially for young people, is another effective way to build a healthy online lifestyle and enhance mutual trust in society.
The types of information threats are gradually diversifying. In addition to the traditional dangers (fraud, theft of user information, etc.), there are also some media forged messages that can incite the public’s emotions, some people using false identities to participate in the dialogue, and some extreme politicized and biased content that implies new threats and becomes a cancer that endangers social public order. If individuals lack the ability to discern and judge media information, they are vulnerable to “fake news” or objectively contribute to the spread of false information.
路聽聽聽聽聽聽 Open dialogues about media literacy and factual information can create conflict; why does this happen?
Everyone has a different definition of a certain word. But on social media platforms it’s easy to argue and misunderstand because of these minor details, which obviously can not be, I think it’s probably because social media platforms give us all the right to be straightforward and say straight things, so many people send out things that are not very brainy and spontaneous, and therefore very one-sided. This is why we can always see a lot of people arguing at the bottom of twitter comments, and some things just can’t be explained clearly in just a few words.
